2014-08-27 – Discussion about waste separation with DK3

Discussion about waste separation

1. For FGD II (alternative fish food from organic waste) and plastic bag distribution, is better if it is being combined with composting of household waste. As we know, the organic waste which will be processed for fish food must be fresh (not rot yet, not smell). Therefore, in case the villagers put all together their household organic waste (vegetables, fruits, rest of food) in one plastic bag, the researcher could easily pick up the fresh one, and the rest will be utilized as composting source.

2. In the FGD II, facilitator from DK3 will explain all about waste management which has been done so far, such as: waste bank, composting house, utilization of house yard for garden, wasteprocessing training etc. The facilitator also will explain about some plan for waste management in Banda Aceh.

3. Explaining waste bank mechanism and its benefit for the society. In this method, the society will
be informed that most of household waste still has economic value. The goal is, the society will
realized that the waste could be sold after separated.

4. In the waste bank, not only plastics, metal, glasses could be sold, but also the fertilizer from composting house and even the fish food made by the villagers (after the research run successfully).

5. The fish food made by the villagers can also be con tested among them.

6. Introducing the waste separation method consists of three categories: marketable waste (for waste bank), organic waste (for fish food and composting) and the rest (for landfill, managed by DK3). In this case, Waste Collecting Point will handle only organic waste.

7. At the end of this period of CoMU Project, field day will be implemented as the final action of waste management of the project. In the field day, the result of previous actions of waste management will be achieved and evaluated.
